The Countess of Leicester administered Holkham Pottery from 1987 until 2005, but only started making the plaster busts in 1998 as an additional arm of the Pottery.

In that year, she commissioned a life size bronze statue of her husband and his dog, which sits on a wooden bench in the park at Holkham; and it occurred to her that casts of some of the roman busts would be an extra attraction in the shops at Holkham.

The silicone rubber moulds for the busts are put directly onto the original marbles at holkham, with the result that the plaster casts come out in very sharp detail, and with every chip and crack that is on the original marbles.

The casts are made with Herculite EN plaster, are then distressed and polished.

Please note that as the busts are made of plaster, they cannot stand outside.
